Kinders are exploring different types of lines this week. We practiced being and drawing straight lines, wavy lines, zig zags and even some free form scribble lines. A lot of different materials are being combined in this masterpiece. We are even creating lines with scissors! I love how personalities shine through in abstract projects such as these!
Ks and 1s read books by Peter H Reynolds. These books showed us a new way to look at making art, the importance of always believing in yourself and helping build up others. Kindergarten focused on his book The Dot. They used a variety of materials to create all different kinds of dots. After experimenting with lots of different materials and techniques they shared their ideas with one another. Ish inspired 1st's paintings. Students adventured into the garden to find a subject for their art. After creating a crayon outline drawing they created resist paintings using watercolors. Kinder and 1st have been working hard to use pictures to tell others about themselves. Kinder created portraits of their families, themselves, and their favorite things. 1st created their very first self portrait for the year. Everyone did such a great job. I am excited to see how much our Springers learn and grow this year!! During Block day this quarter students are exploring the different materials, practicing engineering skills, and critiquing illustrations. I am so excited to start a new year with old friends and new. We have some amazing projects planned for this year. I look forward to all the creativity and art making that will happen inside room 13!
During the 1st 2 weeks of school we are working on projects that use pictures to tell others something about ourselves and self portraits. Be sure to check out our art gallery (outside the art room) when you come to Open House! We will be working with a variety of materials this year, some that get messy, if you would like to donate baby wipes. The art room also uses recycled materials such as: plastic cartons of different sizes (yogurt -> icecream), plastic or foam egg cartons, plastic grocery bags, and fabric. Please wash any food containers before sending them to art. Thank you for all you do to help make the art room great! Keep creating and checking in for more art news. |
