Kindergarten learned about some basic geometric shapes. Then used those shapes to draw the outline of a fish and designed each fish with lines. Students added a setting and details and colored everything but the water. Then we painted our entire drawing with blue watercolor and watched the magic of crayon-water color resist. Each drawing is really unique and an expression of each student.

Using the artwork by Kandinsky as our inspiration, 1st dove into the world of shapes and how geometric shapes are special. They used a pattern of geometric shapes and a variety of colors to create these amazing crayon-water color resist paintings. After students finished painting, they got into small groups to create a collaborative abstract drawing. Students were asked to focus on filling the space with a variety of shapes, colors, and lines. This was also a project focused on team work and collaboration. While students were working on these projects, they were called up to the Smart board to add to our class project. This was the first time this year we have been able to add the smart board to our art making. I look forward to the other technological art we make this year!
Kinder explored all the different lines in this abstract multi media project. They focused on vertical, horizontal, and diagonal directional lines. Then we added variety by using straight, curved, zig zag, wavy, dotted, dashed, spirals, and cloud lines. Can you find all the lines?
Portraits are pictures of a person or people. Students focused on telling a story through their art by using LOTS of details. They filled their space with drawings of their families (K) or themselves (1st) doing something. After the drawings were finished artists were given a chance to present their artwork. Other students had to examine their art and guess what was happening. I LOVE how students used respect and analytical thinking to discuss one another's art.
